Paper Towel Disaster Recovery

On Monday, Neverfail’s US offices moved into a new building, just north of the intersections of highway 2222 and 360 in Austin, TX. Since the move, we’ve hit the ground running with new team members (including myself), a micro site for SRMXtender (srmx.neverfailgroup.com) — a product that integrates with VMware’s SRM, enabling you to simultaneously manage your physical and virtual servers — and big ideas for the upcoming year.

In the midst of a phone call on Tuesday, I spilled a perfectly good cup of water, which was minding its own business on my desk. This disaster was escalating in severity as it inched closer to my brand new MacBook Pro. Using fundamental disaster recovery principles (similar to Neverfail’s world-class software solutions), I quickly remedied the situation.

  • Address the disaster
  • Recover as quickly and efficiently as possible
  • Eliminate downtime

I located some paper towels and quickly cleaned up the expanding pond on my desk, without the person on the other end of the phone even realizing a disaster took place.

Intuitively, I also learned to keep my water on the other side of my phone cord.
